Joanie Laurer a.k.a. CHYNA (The Ninth Wonder of the World) 1970 to 2016
Throughout a large part of the 90s through to the early 00s, one of the things I found massively entertaining was (then) WWF and WCW pro wrestling. However being limited to the 4 (and later on, 5) "poor man's telly" channels available in the UK, my only option was to buy the videos. Many a Saturday was spent in HMV and Virgin, looking with anticipation if a new PPV had been released on VHS. Well, that and if if I could find any new female-lead martial arts movies, which were even rarer! (For those who read my previous journal, my love of powerful women had now revealed itself!)
But back to pro wrestling. About 1997/98, I saw a female wrestler who I never expected to see on WWF. She was so different from the rest in that she didn't have the usual classic beauty of the other female wrestlers at the time and she was BIG! I was amazed and delighted to see a female wrestler on a mainstream promotion who was so unbelievably muscular and powerful. Being a fan of HHH (and to date probably remains my all time favourite pro wrestler), of course my favourite time of her career was that early DX period of the late 90s and for a reminder of how she looked then:

I don't remember this, but here is her RAW debut:
When I first saw her backspring elbow smash like the one at 5.30, I was how can a woman that big pull off a move like that??
She undoubtedly helped to widen the opinion of women's wrestling and the world is a lesser place without her!!
